Stratele Hybrid For my Brother
Posted by Andy Matthews on April 24, 2007 in Construction Diaries | No CommentsToday I did the rough work on an electric guitar for my brother. The neck is from a Highway One Strat, and I’ve been asked to make a new, tele-shaped mahogany body for it.

Fanned-Fret Seven-String - Closing The Box
Posted by Andy Matthews on April 23, 2007 in Construction Diaries | No CommentsI spent the past couple of days voicing the top, finishing the bracing and last night I got the top glued on.
Just to check how it looked, I’ve knocked up a bridge and fretboard extension from MDF and painted them black.

Fanned-Fret Seven-String Started
Posted by Andy Matthews on April 1, 2007 in Construction Diaries | No CommentsThis is the current college project. It’s loosely based on a Martin OM shape but with my own changes to the design. It’ll have seven strings (an extra low B) and the fretboard is fanned between 29″ on the bass side and 25.4″ on the treble. The body is 10mm deeper than normal and I have come up with my own florentine cutaway. Back and sides are some particularly nice European Walnut and the top will be Euro spruce. Bindings, inlays and other design details will be in Brazilian Rosewood. The neck is a seven-piece laminate of maple, flamed sycamore, ebony and Indian rosewood.
The “boat” is finished and ready to accept the top which is currently braced and waiting for voicing. Expect updates as work progresses
