Dark Matter Guitars is a new instrument-making workshop based in the North West of England, offering both acoustic and electric guitars. It is run by trained luthier Andy Matthews who has achieved a Higher National Diploma in Musical Instrument Technology.

“My philosophy on instrument construction allows for a fusion of time-honoured classic designs with cutting-edge modern thinking and an eagerness to experiment. I firmly believe it is vital to have a solid grounding in traditional techniques but never to be afraid of embracing new ideas.”

The Workshop

Based in the village of Rainford near St. Helens, the Dark Matter workshop has been carefully planned to provide all the tools and machinery that a modern luthier requires. Most of the work on each instrument is done by hand, and the process is supplemented by quality machine tools when required. Custom made jigs and moulds provide the basis of all guitar construction, and the work is finished to the highest standard.
